Remove the felt filter and rinse it thoroughly under cold running water, working the grounds out with your fingers until the water runs clear. Do not use soap on a felt filter — it absorbs detergent and will taint your next batch.

Rinse the brewer body and rubber stopper with warm water, and wash the glass decanter with regular dish soap since it doesn’t hold onto flavors the way felt does.

Weekly deep clean

  1. Soak the felt filter in a mix of 1 tablespoon baking soda to 2 cups of warm water for 15 minutes
  2. Rinse thoroughly and squeeze out excess water
  3. Let it air dry completely before storing — a damp filter left sealed is the most common cause of mold

Storing between brews

Store the felt filter somewhere it can breathe — a partially open container or a small mesh bag works well. Sealing a damp filter in a plastic bag is the single biggest mistake people make with the Toddy system.

When to replace the filter
