Keep your Toddy system clean, mold-free, and running well for years.
Nearly every complaint about musty-tasting cold brew or a moldy filter traces back to the same few skipped steps. Keep these three and your brewer should stay trouble-free for years.
Rinse the felt filter with water only, right after every batch. Soap soaks into felt and you will taste it in the next batch.
Never store the filter damp in a closed space. Toddy’s home brewing guide says to seal the rinsed, still-damp filter in a zip bag and keep it in the freezer between batches. If you would rather store it dry, let it air-dry completely first.
Replace the felt filter after about 10 batches or three months. That is Toddy’s own guidance. If the concentrate starts draining noticeably slower or the filter smells off even after a rinse, replace it sooner.
